I am not a fitness elite. I am not a incredible professional athlete. I am a woman who has found fitness late in life. This article is about fat loss. And that is something I can speak about with authority. You see, when I was 43 I used to weight upwards of 265 lbs. I was headed on the way to high blood pressure meds for the rest of my life and a whole host of other health concerns because of my obesity.
I am now 47 and lost about 130 lbs in the course of 2 years through healthy whole foods and exercise. If you are reading this and have never had a significant amount of weight on you, then you can’t possibly relate to what it’s like in society or in a body that is difficult to move about in. Now that I’m on the other side of it and know what it’s like on both sides, I choose this new body!
Fat loss is something that our culture is obsessed with at any size. “How to lose that last 10 lbs the fast way” is written on every magazine cover in America it seems. Well the reality is, even 10 lbs can be a challenge to some if they don’t know how. By removing processed foods from my life and introducing more whole foods that include lean meats, fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grains I changed my meals completely. I overcame my fear of the gym and headed to my local YMCA and got on the first piece of equipment that looked like I could handle – the treadmill! I just started walking and lost 30 lbs very quickly. After a while I then added in weight lifting and resistance training to build muscle which helped burn fat! I had learned that if you have more muscle you actually burn fat even at rest. That was my weapon going forward! My healthy lifestyle became my focus. I had to save my life. And it worked! I feel so much better now it’s truly incredible what the body can overcome when you change your mindset, eat better, built muscle and take off the fat suit.
Need to lose that 10 or 20 lbs or even 100 lbs? I encourage you to start making time for yourself and get walking!
