3 P’s for Business Survival

Picture1Taking the leap of faith to start a business is frightening, exhilarating, exhausting, and rewarding, all in the same breath.  Here are some helpful tips for entrepreneurs, whether you are in the initial dream stage or in the process of living out that dream:

  • Patience

Someone once reminded me “Rome wasn’t built overnight.”  On a much smaller scale, the same principle holds true for building a business.  Without continued patience, you and your business will not be able to withstand the frustrations, challenges, and unexpected detours that will cross your path.  If patience is an area of growth for you (as for most), consider consulting with a gardener who may be able to share how they are patient while waiting for the crop to harvest.  Gardeners know the best time to sow certain seeds, the ideal way to prepare the soil, and the importance of nurturing with the right amount of water and sunlight.  In due time, the crop will harvest.

  • Persistence

Most small businesses don’t survive the first year.  Persistence is another critical key to survival.  With a strong work ethic and attunement to where your entrepreneur heart is led, continued efforts will eventually pay off.  This also requires re-evaluation of what is and is not working in regards to your growing business, research into what has the potential to work, and dedication to what is likely to work with more time and nurturing.  Building any type of business is not easy and requires hard word and persistence.  If persistence still sounds too far-fetched, consider consulting with a trapeze artist.  They were likely not born with the ability to walk a tight rope.  It took years of practice, failures, re-balancing, and focus.  That is persistence.

  • Positivity

If you are a naturally positive person, you will be tested as you build and own a business.  If you are naturally a pessimist, you and your business will be more likely to live up to the negativity.  This is not to say that only people with positive attitudes have successful businesses.  It all depends on how you define success and how you choose to view the world.  If you are able to stay positive through the trials and tribulations, patience and persistence will be more attainable.  Your staff and business contacts will be more likely to stay long-term and share a positive work environment.  Your family, friends, and loved ones will be able to enjoy quality fun time with you if you are able to keep a positive perspective.  If you need assistance in this area, surround yourself with positive people and their perspective will be contagious as long as you allow it.

Best wishes as you continue on your successful entrepreneur path with Patience, Persistence, and Positivity…
