February 2012 ~ Heart Month

Stores and advertisements are full of reminders of this month’s dedication to Valentine’s Day around the world.  As love from the heart fills the air, we are focusing on the physical organ during American Heart Month.  According to the Center for Disease Control, heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States.  http://www.cdc.gov/features/heartmonth/  Research continues to highlight the impact of nutrition and exercise on the heart.  We encourage you to join us in putting that knowledge to action with small steps towards a healthy lifestyle to prevent health issues, including heart disease.

If your focus continues to be drawn to the emotional heart, you can also take small steps towards health.  If you are in a relationship, this is the perfect time to evaluate how healthy it is.  Is there anything within your control that you can do to communicate more clearly, let go of past hurt, interact more lovingly, push less buttons, demonstrate more self-control, or become more empowered?  If you are single, divorced, widowed, or in between relationships, this is the best time to focus on healing and loving yourself while becoming the healthiest you.  Have you identified your personal and professional goals?  Have you listed the qualities that your future partner will have?

Embrace this moment as the moment to take care of your physical and emotional heart, and the rest of your body will thank you.  Thank you for joining us in celebrating American Heart Month.  If you feel unprepared or unsuccessful in tackling any of our ideas, we strongly encourage you to consult with a professional (certified personal trainer, licensed psychotherapist, registered dietician, etc.).
