“Change before you have to. Jack Welch”
As part of the IFIT FOR LIFE’s action steps for a healthier lifestyle; we’re going to outline facts about drinking sodas. Sodas are artificial colored, artificially sweetened, and full of empty sweet calories made from high fructose corn syrup.
There are numerous studies that indicate the negative health impact of sodas. The Childhood Obesity Research Center at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine did a study demonstrating findings of higher than normal levels of fructose in numerous brand name sodas. So what are
the detrimental effects? Over consuming fructose will lead to weight gain as well as to an increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 Diabetes.
The book “Naked Calorie”, a highly researched book on importance of micro nutrients to prevent disease, notes drinking sodas can also deplete you of chromium, magnesium, zinc and copper when you metabolize fructose from high fructose corn syrup. Another important detail about soda, many contain caffeine which actually does not hydrate but do the opposite and dehydrate.
Limiting or eliminating all sodas and drink natures hydrator “water” is an action step that can make a big difference in the quest to be healthier. For a thirst quenching treat, add fresh lemon juice to your iced water, and a packet of Stevia, (Truvia or Pure Via)…YUM! Or you can add sliced cucumbers or oranges for a refreshing taste too!
